Modeling

I've researching tutorials on modelling, seeing as I am papping myself over maya. On Youtube I found a user called 'slorpthegillman', who has put up a series of tutorials by Andrew Klien, a maya tutor. This videos are really cool and helpful and I think anyone who is doing modelling should check out his page.

Cutler Model Sheet

I am preparing myself for the harsh world of maya, with this in mind I drew a model sheet of Cutler to help me in Maya. It was pretty weird drawing the character in such a neutral pose. I'm so used to drawing him with a big grin on his face, that it just felt...boring to draw. Now come the difficult decision of which character to make aswell. Ash made a good point that Snubbs would be difficult as his head is so big, he would not be able to turn it.

Viewtiful Joe

This is the only modern day side scrolling beat 'em up that I can think of that is similar to how I envision the game that I am working on. Viewtiful Joe was a GameCube exclusive fighter that had bullet time effects and cell shaded graphics. The game had a really cool design that made it stand out from all the games coming out at the time.

TURNAROUNDS

Here are the turnarounds for all five of my characters. I thought this was necessary as I will need to have a sense of all their dimensions if I am to model any of them in Maya. I wasn't really feelin' it today so the artwork kinda sucks, I inked over them really quick in pen. Now comes the difficult choice...WHICH ONES TO MODEL?

Mr X Colour Art

Finally, here are my colour designs for Mr X. As I said before, done using the same steps as when I did Snubbs. I didn't want Mr X to have your typical villainous colours of black and red. Instead, I wanted to bring out his fish element. With this in mind, I coloured Mr X in a range of pinks. I got this colour scheme from Carps and Salamanders. I am quite pleased with his colour scheme as it is not what you would normally expect.

My Influence Part 5- John Romita Jr

The last artist on my list is John Romita Jr. Son of the legendary comic book artist John Romita, Jr has earned his place as a comic book artist on his own merit becoming one of Marvel's most used artists. Romita Jr has a very angular style of drawing, coupled with a very simple style of shading, not resorting to the extreme muscle definition that is common in comic book artists. Romita Jr is very speedy with his artwork which is part of the reason he is used quite frequently. However, this aspect adds a sense of urgency to his artwork which makes it very vibrant. John Romita Jr was the first artist I was ever interested in and studying his artwork helped me learn how to draw.
All of the influences that I have listed are very important to me. I love looking at all of these artists work, as they all inspire me to draw.

My Influence Part 4- Francisco Hererra

His name may make him sound like a latino rapper, but Francisco Herrera is a very talented comic book artist. Much like Glenn Keane, Herrera's work is very expressive and cartoony due to his love of Disney animation. Each of his drawings has a very smooth look to them which gives them a lot of life and personality. His colouring also stands out quite prominently. Like Sean Galloway, Herrera uses a darker shade of a colour for his outlines, instead of the traditional black. This makes each of his characters stand out individually.
