My Influences Part 3- Glenn Keane

A few people (enphasis on the FEW) have said my artwork reminds them of Glenn Keane...I WISH! This man is a god in the animation world. He is a masterful Disney animator who has worked on Aladdin, Beauty and The Beast, The Little Mermaid, Treasure Planet and Pocahontas, as well as being lead animator on Disney's Tarzan! This man's drawing and animation talent really come into play as he's able to convey incredibly believable emotions out of the characters. His work on Tarzan is what I consider his crowning achievement as the film was visually outstanding.

My Influences Part 2- Sean Galloway

Sam, Josh, Neil and myself all have a love for this man's artwork. It's his simplistic drawing and two tone shading that really makes him stand out. He uses very pastel colours, combined with a subtle outline to create a very airy looking drawing. All harshness is taken away, and instead the artwork has room to breath. This guys artwork and colouring kicks ass and I constantly push myself to try and be as good as him.

My Influences part1- SCOTTIE YOUNG

I thought it was important to mention on my blog the artists I most aspire to be like. The first one on the list is comic book artist Scottie Young. What can I say, the guy is amazing. Not only is his drawings technically impressive, he is very speedy as well, creating this very rampant and fiery style. His drawings are very scratchy and have lots of energy to them. His digital colouring is very impressive as well. He makes full use of his graphics tablet to create a very sketchy colouring style. I don't have a tablet, so I once tried to recreate this effect with a mouse..it was not the same.

Cutler Artwork

Here is my Cutler artwork, done using the same process as Snubbs. Colouring this picture was a pain, I tried to get the colours right twice before doing the final version, it just wasn't working. Luckily it turned out OK in the end. I am happy with this picture, drawings kinda sucks, but I quite like the colours now!

Sash Artwork

Here is my colour design for Sash, again I used the same technique as I did with Snubb's artwork. I wanted Sash o have a limited colour pallet, and have her clothes consist of light blue and light purple. This is because I wanted those colours to be identified with her. I chose purple as one of her main colours as I think it is a colour that has lots of attitude but retains its feminine quality. Most of Sash's clothes, and makeup consist of different hues of purple and blue. I'm quite happy with Sash, but I would really like some comments on what people think, in case I should change it.

Tong Artwork

Here is my artwork for Tong, I used the same process that I used for Snubbs. I decided to go for a full panda-like colour scheme with him as I felt he looked too bland without it. Pandas have such an instantly recognisable colour scheme, I felt I had to use it. The colouring with Tong was bit more of a pain in the butt than Snubbs as I hadn't drawn a line to define the panda markings, so I had to do it with the polygonal lasso. Overall I am quite pleased with Tong's colour scheme as no people can see he is a panda.

Snubbs Artwork

Here is some colour artwork for Snubbs, I've posted all stages of the process. Firstly, I penciled it, then inked it. After inking it, I took it into illustrator, deleted all the white and cleaned up all the dirty marks around it, as well as connecting some unconnected lines. I then took it into photoshop and coloured it. I tried to make sure to mix some greys into the colour, as otherwise it comes off rather amateur-ish. I then added some highlights to the colour. I did not like the harshness of the edges so I softened them using the blur tool. Finally, I wanted to give the drawings an extra something, so I decided to place the art on a canvas background. I wanted to blend the art in a bit more so I put an opacity on it set at 81%. I am very happy with the results, as I feel as if I'm constantly learning with photoshop.
